Dr. Marina Darakhvelidze

Dr. Marina Darakhvelidze is a highly qualified medical professional with extensive experience in clinical practice, health administration, and medical education.

Since 2026, Dr. Darakhvelidze has served as a Clinical Surveyor at the Healthcare Quality Assessment Accreditation Council, where she oversees clinical governance, patient safety, epidemiology, infection prevention and control, and clinical risk management within the accreditation processes of healthcare organizations.

Since 2023, she has gained experience working with international accreditation organizations in the healthcare field.

Since February 2020, she has been the Head and Dean of the Pharmacy Department at the University of Georgia. In this role, she also lectures on Bioethics and Medical Law, as well as the Basics of Pharmacy Management at the School of Health Sciences, mentoring future healthcare professionals and integrating clinical expertise with healthcare management education.

From 2013 to 2020, Dr. Darakhvelidze served as the Head of the Healthcare Department at the Ministry of IDPs, Labour, Health, and Social Affairs of Georgia, leading healthcare policy development, administrative management, and program implementation across the national healthcare system.

From 2006 to 2013, she held senior management positions in the Quality Control Service of the State Regulatory Agency for Medical Activities, where she was responsible for regulatory oversight, quality control processes, and implementation of evidence-based clinical standards.

From 1999 to 2011, Dr. Darakhvelidze worked as an obstetrician-gynecologist in various maternity hospitals in Tbilisi, providing high-quality patient care and contributing to maternal health services.

Dr. Darakhvelidze’s contributions extend beyond her professional appointments. She actively collaborates with NGOs and donor organizations to develop policies and regulatory frameworks for palliative care in Georgia. She is a member of the Georgian Healthcare Association and participates in initiatives shaping the national healthcare sector. Additionally, she is a member of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP).

Her academic background combines clinical, legal, and public health disciplines. She holds an MD degree from Tbilisi State Medical University and a state certificate in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her educational journey also includes ongoing PhD candidacy in Public Health at Ilia State University, as well as master’s degrees in Law and English Language and Literature.
